Coaching as a path to Gratitude:
Gratitude often feels like a soft, passive emotion—something we express when things are going well or when we’re on the receiving end of kindness. But there’s another kind of gratitude, one that’s far more active and interwoven with the work we do in the world. As a coach, I’ve come to understand gratitude as not just a response to life’s gifts but as something that emerges through deep, reciprocal human connection.

How Do We Truly See Each Other? This is a long-form conversation about connection—about the stories we pass by every day without noticing. It’s about how the real people we meet carry heroic, deeply human narratives that we rarely take the time to understand. Nathan J Lester is an artist, a photographer, a public servant, and, in many ways, a guide. His life has been shaped by moments most of us would struggle to process—working with children living with cancer, photographing rock-and-roll legends, navigating fatherhood, and surviving a near-death experience that redefined his approach to creativity and presence. Through it all, he has cultivated a relentless passion for both his craft and a more inclusive world.

As a member on the Australian Expert Advisory Group on Mindfulness, my colleagues and I (academics and educators alike) work to help Parliamentarians and those that work with them develop the skills for bringing a more mindful presence to their work, to build their skills and resilience, and to inform the work that they do.
This past week, on Tuesday 19th of November 2024, in a Committee Room in Parliament house, we held the official launch of 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩.
